Ljubljana

I took the bus from Plitvice Lakes to Zagreb and then from Zagreb to Ljubljana. I bought a a (pastry). Then I walked to my hostel, C-punkt Hostel. The rooms are lovely, with high ceilings and a clean, simple aesthetic. My first evening in Ljubljana I explored the city centre, including the famous Zmajski Most (Dragon Bridge) and the area along the Ljubljanica river.

It's such a quaint little city, with many people biking, lots of trees and pretty fountains.

For dinner I found a vegan restaurant near the main square called Organic Garden (OG), and had a nice salad.

The next morning, I walked up to Ljubljana Castle. I didn't pay to go inside the castle, and instead just walked around the ground for views of the city.

It's a fairly small city, so it didn't take me very long to explore the whole city centre.

I went to a bookstore and bought a couple books, then headed to the big Tivoli Park, and sat and read for several hours.

I went back to Organic Garden for dinner and had an AMAZING vegan burger and purple potato chips.

My last morning in Ljubljana I went to the farmers' market and bought some local strawberries. Then I just walked around some more, and got some gelato at a place called Cacao.

Bled

I took the bus from Ljubljana to Bled. I stayed at Bled Hostel. When I arrived, I walked around the lake in the evening and got to watch some rowers practicing.

The next morning, I walked up to Bled Castle, Blejski Grad, and got a student discount ticket. There were nice views of the lake, the Julian Alps, and there was a little museum inside too.

In the afternoon I walked around to the other side of the lake and hiked up to the lookout point, Mala Osojnica, for stunning views of the lake and the little island in the middle. Fun fact: this island is the only natural island in Slovenia. In the evening I went to this really good dessert place near my hostel called Slaščičarna Zima.

I really enjoyed Bled - it's a beautiful area and I could have easily spent another day or two there - I wish I had rented a boat or stand-up paddle board, and there's also the nearby Vintgar Gorge which is supposed to be lovely. Next time, I guess!
